Dreamscape 19 Toil & Trouble

ESP / Dreamscape Drum & Bass / Hardcore / Techno 16 archive recordings

A major Sanctuary-era Dreamscape preserved across sixteen Rave Archive UK recordings and several later tape-pack strands.

The night

Toil & Trouble at a glance

The surviving recordings show what can still be heard today; later tape catalogues show how more of the night was packaged and sold.

The tapes

A multi-strand recording footprint

Sixteen Rave Archive recordings sit alongside later commercial packs that show just how widely material from the night circulated.

Dreamscape 19 sits firmly in the mature Sanctuary era, when Dreamscape could support multiple musical directions under one event identity. The sixteen recordings preserved by Rave Archive UK reflect that breadth: Bunjy, Brisk, Donovan Bad Boy Smith, Dazee, Hype, Slipmatt, Kemistry & Storm, HMS, Sy, Dougal & Clarkee, SS, Andy C, Grooverider, Randall, Fabio & Mastervibe and LTJ Bukem all survive, with MC combinations retained where they are part of the recording title.

The later commercial catalogue separates a Drum & Bass pack from a Hardcore & Techno pack, and also lists a separate Radio Dreamscape Volume 1 double pack. Some names overlap the current archive directly; other catalogue entries are packaged differently from the combinations heard on the surviving Rave Archive transfers.

Those differences are part of the tape history. The sixteen recordings stay under the identities in which they survive, while the later packs show the wider footprint of Dreamscape 19 without claiming a complete running order.

Deep dive • the tape packs kept the split visible

Drum & bass on one side, hardcore & techno on the other

Later Dreamscape catalogues preserve Toil & Trouble as two distinct eight-pack strands.

The drum & bass pack names Dazee, Kemistry & Storm, Mastervibe, Randall, Grooverider, Andy C & SS, Hype and LTJ Bukem. The hardcore/techno pack names Bunjy, Donovan Bad Boy Smith, HMS, Brisk, Vibes, Dougal, Clarkee, Slipmatt, Sy and Seduction. Sixteen RAUK transfers on this page preserve an unusually large portion of that broader recorded footprint.

Kemistry & Storm are particularly important survivors because their exact-event recording sits squarely inside the drum & bass pack rather than being treated as a later Metalheadz footnote. The catalogue does not give us a live timetable, but it does preserve how the recordings themselves were organised and sold after the night.
