Desire A Midsummer Night Dream
The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes • Saturday 29 July 1995. A major two-arena 2000AD Productions event at one of rave’s defining venues, preserved through the original flyer, contemporary press coverage and eight Rave Archive UK recordings.

Desire at Sanctuary scale
The July 1995 flyer presents Desire as a full two-arena event rather than a single-room rave. Arena 1 is explicitly billed as hardcore drum & bass, with Grooverider, Hype, Micky Finn, Randall, Rap, Jumpin Jack Frost, Swann-e, Andy C, Swift & Zinc and Dazee, plus MCs Stevie Hyper D, Rage and Flux.
A preview in The Independent, published the day before the event, described 2000AD Productions as building on previous Desire drum & bass events and promising a larger Milton Keynes production, with particular emphasis on visuals and a trouble-free environment. It gives a useful snapshot of how the night was being presented at the time.
The eight Rave Archive UK recordings preserve a strong cross-section of Arena 1: DJ Rap, Swann-e, Jumpin Jack Frost, Hype, Micky Finn, Andy C, Randall and Grooverider, with Hooligan, Stevie Hyper D and Rage appearing across the tapes.

Arena culture on tape
The surviving sets reinforce how central MC performance was to Desire’s 1995 sound. Rage appears repeatedly, Stevie Hyper D is captured with Swann-e and Andy C, and Hooligan appears with DJ Rap. The tapes preserve the vocal texture and crowd-facing side of the event as well as the DJs.
