Desire moves into Club UN

By September 1995, Desire had moved from the huge Sanctuary-scale Midsummer Night Dream into a very different London setting: Club UN in Tottenham, billed on the surviving artwork as the United Nations Building at 415–419 High Road, N17. The flyer advertises an all-night 10pm–8am session under the Desire 95 Volume 2 banner.

Rave Archive UK preserves eight recordings from the night: Swift & Zinc; Andy C with MC Rage; Jumpin Jack Frost with Rage and Stevie Hyper D; Ellis Dee back-to-back with Swann-e and Stevie Hyper D; Darren Jay back-to-back with Micky Finn and Stevie Hyper D & Rage; DJ Hype with MC GQ; Grooverider with Stevie Hyper D; and Randall with MC GQ & Stevie Hyper D.

That is an unusually rich performance record, but it is not the same thing as a complete official lineup or timetable. The page therefore treats those eight recordings as the surviving sound of the event rather than reverse-engineering a poster bill from the tapes.

A dense performance archive

The Club UN tapes show how far the drum & bass performance language had moved by late 1995: back-to-back combinations, specialist MC pairings and heavyweight DJ names are preserved directly in the audio. Stevie Hyper D, Rage and GQ recur across the surviving recordings, while Swift & Zinc and Ellis Dee & Swann-e show the collaborative DJ format that was becoming increasingly visible on tape packs.
