Four surviving recordings preserve the closing chapter of AWOL’s original Paradise Club era. The exact December date remains unclaimed until stronger primary evidence appears.

A club night that became part of jungle’s infrastructure
AWOL’s importance came from repetition: selectors, MCs, dubplates, regulars and tapes returning to the same room until the night became a reference point beyond the club itself.
AWOL launched at the Paradise Club in Islington in 1992 and became one of the places where hardcore’s breakbeat-heavy edge hardened into the jungle culture of the following years.
By 1994, AWOL and Paradise were part of a specialist jungle network rather than simply one branch of the wider rave circuit. The value of the surviving tapes is that they preserve the combinations that made the night work: DJs, MC GQ, dubplates and a crowd hearing records at the point they were still becoming scene standards.
The four recordings preserved here are therefore more than a farewell set list. They document the end of AWOL’s original Paradise era through several of the DJs and MCs most strongly associated with its identity.
The final Paradise tapes are a tracklist in themselves
The surviving recordings show the actual late-1994 record pool inside the room.
The Randall & Kenny Ken recording moves through Cool Hand Flex, DJ Rap, Splash, Krome & Time, Tom & Jerry, DJ SS, Nookie, Prizna with Demolition Man and Omni Trio.
The adjoining Micky Finn and Darren Jay material brings in Urban Shakedown, Remarc, Rude Bwoy Monty, Marvellous Cain and other records circulating at the end of 1994.
That gives the page something stronger than a retrospective claim that Paradise was “important”: the tapes preserve the jungle vocabulary in the room as AWOL’s original Paradise chapter closed.
