Six Rave Archive UK transfers preserve one of AWOL’s strongest Paradise-era tape packs without turning later tape dating into a false exact event date.
Six tapes from AWOL’s Paradise era
The page keeps the broad Summer 1994 identity because the tapes survive more clearly than one primary flyer fixing a precise calendar day.
Darren Jay, Micky Finn, Dr S Gachet, DJ Ron, Kenny Ken and Randall appear with MC GQ, giving the volume a consistent voice as well as a recognisable DJ core.
Secondary tracklist archives repeatedly identify individual Volume 1 copies as May 1994. That is useful tape evidence, but it is not the same as a surviving event flyer fixing one precise AWOL club night, so the page retains the safer Summer 94 identity.
A commercial AWOL catalogue lists a similar six-name pack but gives one name as DJ Jon. Rave Archive UK’s preserved transfer identifies DJ Ron. Both variants belong to the wider tape history; the playable copy here is DJ Ron.
Paradise was playing jungle in full colour
The reconstructed tracklists make the musical position of the pack much more tangible than the phrase “Summer 94” alone.
Randall moves through Renegade, M-Beat, Dillinja, Engineers Without Fears, Dead Dred, Roni Size & DJ Die and Tom & Jerry. Darren Jay’s tape brings in Amazon II, Shimon, Spiritual Aura, Leviticus, Roni Size and Johnny Jungle, while Kenny Ken and DJ Ron preserve still more of the same fast-moving record pool.
That puts the pack firmly inside the period where AWOL and Paradise had become central to London’s specialist jungle network. The surviving recordings show the sound in motion without forcing a later genre narrative onto the tapes.
