MC Bassman Shadow Demon Blaster

The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes • Saturday 19 April 2003. Telepathy in association with Xcon 2 Icon presented MC Bassman Shadow Demon Blaster, the identity printed on the surviving event flyer. Four Rave Archive UK recordings are held here, while a documented 1:00:11 Concrete / Andy C recording and a wider later tape-pack trail show that more of the night survives beyond the archive’s current uploads.
The story
Telepathy reaches The Sanctuary
By 2003 Telepathy’s sound and MC culture had moved a long way from the mid-1990s Club UN tapes, but the core live energy was still there: heavyweight drum & bass DJs, multiple MCs moving across the night, and Bassman’s name pushed right to the front of the event identity.
The four RAUK recordings preserve Brockie with Bass, Trigga, Shabba, Shaydee & Juice; Kenny Ken with Fearless, Riddla & Bassman; Funky Flirt & Nicky Blackmarket with MCs; and Micky Finn with Fearless, Bass & Shaydee. The combinations make this another event where the vocal side of the rave is central to what survives.
A separate Concrete / Andy C recording from the same date is documented at 1:00:11 in the surviving tracklist archive, with Bassman, Fearless, GQ, Shaydee and Trigga attached to the record. Its Andy C section preserves a very 2003 drum & bass snapshot — RAM, Fresh, Dillinja, Pendulum, Total Science and High Contrast among the identified tracks.
There is also contemporary pre-event evidence. A Dogs On Acid thread started on 27 March 2003 names “MC Bassmans Shadow Demon Blaster” at The Sanctuary and specifically anticipates Swift & Andy C back-to-back. That is valuable period evidence of how the night was being discussed before it happened, but a forum post is not treated here as a confirmed running order.
The tape-pack trail
One event, several later names
The flyer and exact-event tracklist record give the live event identity as MC Bassman Shadow Demon Blaster. Later commercial tape archives, however, file 2003 Xcon 2 Icon material under The Return of Bassman and The Return of Bassman & Shadow Squad.
Those later pack listings preserve a wider recorded footprint including Micky Finn, Andy C, Dollar, SS & Ray Keith, Nicky Blackmarket, Kenny Ken, Brockie and Zero Tolerance / Dangerous D. House of Music also lists Concrete & Andy C and a combined SS, Ray Keith & Funky Flirt entry.
That title drift is part of the archive story, but it is not enough evidence to overwrite the title printed on the surviving flyer. Rave Archive therefore keeps Shadow Demon Blaster as the event name and treats the “Return of Bassman” wording as later tape-pack / catalogue metadata.

Why it matters
The MCs are all over these tapes
Fearless, Bassman, Shaydee, Trigga, Shabba, Riddla and Juice appear across the surviving archive. That gives the page a strong picture of Telepathy’s 2003 live style: the DJ set is only half the story, with the MC crew carrying a huge part of the room’s identity.
