Ten years of rave under one roof

DecaDance was built as a retrospective and a current-event statement at the same time. The artwork makes the anniversary explicit — 1989 to 1999 — while the surviving recordings show how wide Helter Skelter’s musical world had become by the end of the decade.

The archive moves across drum & bass, happy hardcore, harder techno and trance, plus deliberately labelled old-skool sets. That spread is the point. By 1999 Helter Skelter was no longer representing one narrow sound: it was staging several generations and branches of rave culture together at Sanctuary/Denbigh scale.

On the drum & bass side the RAUK archive includes Kenny Ken, Jumpin Jack Frost, Andy C, Brockie, Micky Finn, Grooverider and Swann-e alongside heavy MC combinations. The hardcore side brings in Dougal, Breeze, Vibes, Sy, Hixxy, Force & Styles, Brisk and more. Mark EG & M-Zone, Juice & Cally and Sarge push the harder edge, while Ratpack and the specifically marked old-skool recordings make the anniversary idea audible rather than just decorative.

An anniversary you can actually hear

DecaDance works as more than a birthday slogan because the archive itself contains the history lesson. Current drum & bass and hardcore sit beside old-skool retrospectives, while the harder rooms show how far the wider rave family had branched by 1999. Twenty-seven surviving sets make this one of the deepest single-event records on Rave Archive UK.
