The festival comes home to Liverpool
Creamfields’ official history describes 1999 as the year the festival moved to the old Liverpool Airfield, placing the outdoor event much closer to its parent night at Nation. The move was not just symbolic: the official history says the new site could hold more people and effectively doubled the festival’s capacity in response to demand after the Winchester debut.
The surviving 1999 advert shows a much broader festival identity than a single club tent. Pet Shop Boys and Basement Jaxx sit alongside house and trance names, while dedicated areas carry specialist strands of the scene. By 1999 Creamfields was no longer simply “Cream outdoors”, but a festival structure capable of absorbing multiple commercial and underground dance currents at once.
Surviving recordings also help pin down the weekend. Judge Jules survives from 28 August and Paul Oakenfold from 29 August, so the page keeps Creamfields 1999 as a festival-weekend story rather than forcing both recordings onto one false single-day date.

Why the airfield matters
The old Liverpool Airfield gave Creamfields the room to scale up while reconnecting the festival geographically with Liverpool. Contemporary and retrospective material commonly identifies the site as Speke or Old Liverpool Airfield, two names for the same festival location in this history.
