Early Dreamscape captured on tape
Having several tapes from one night lets you hear how different the rooms and selections could feel. Each set catches its own corner of early Dreamscape.
By late May 1992, Dreamscape had returned to The Sanctuary repeatedly within a few months. The official Dreamscape history identifies the venue itself as a foundational part of the organisation: a room Murray Beetson believed could deliver the warehouse scale the scene needed, expanded through practical investment before Dreamscape was born there.
The Rave Archive collection preserves DJ Dougal, DJ Phantasy, LTJ Bukem with MC Conrad, Ellis Dee, DJ Hype, Bryan Gee, Ray Keith and Swan-E. Other Dreamscape tape-pack catalogues also identify Mastersafe and Clarkee, making this another night where the surviving recorded history is broader than the playable collection here.
One of the strongest pieces of the surviving story is the LTJ Bukem / MC Conrad tape: it survived not simply as a name in a catalogue but as a recording repeatedly remembered and circulated by listeners. Ray Keith’s set has likewise continued to be discussed decades later. That afterlife is part of why the event stands as a historical night rather than a loose collection of uploads.
The tape that opened the road ahead
Dreamscape 4 is one of the rare pages where later artist memory and the surviving tape line up beautifully.
MC Conrad later described Dreamscape 4 with LTJ Bukem as the gig that “carved the way forwards” for them. He remembered hearing that tape everywhere afterwards, including in the car park at Fantazia Castle Donington. A 1996 interview independently has Conrad naming Dreamscape 4 as his favourite performance and his first major club appearance with Bukem.
The surviving Bukem set explains why the tape travelled: DJ Clarkee, Bay B Kane, Manix, EQ, Bizzy B, Dance Conspiracy, DJ Crystl, Cool Hand Flex and Wax Doctor all appear in a 45-minute run. The wider released pack also preserves Phantasy, Hype, Clarkee, Ray Keith, Ellis Dee, Mastersafe, Swan-E, Dougal and Bryan Gee material.
