One venue, three strands of 1994 rave
Desire’s August Bank Holiday event is a good example of how large London rave nights were becoming multi-room snapshots of a scene that was splitting into more distinct sounds. A surviving review describes three arenas rather than one single musical programme.
The review places names including Hype, Randall and Ellis Dee in the first arena; a second arena carrying house, garage, techno and trance with Desire residents Mellows and Matt Maurice alongside Sarah Chapman; and a third arena run by Eruption FM with names including Crossfade, Nicky Blackmarket and Demolition Crew. That wider structure matters because the four surviving Rave Archive UK transfers represent only part of the night.
Those recordings preserve Slipmatt, Fabio, DJ Dougal with Micky Finn, and DJ Hype, all with Rage and Special A. They sit beneath the event history as four surviving performances rather than a claim to the full lineup or running order.
