One in the Jungle 1995
BBC Radio 1’s first regular jungle run put the scene onto national radio without sanding off its pirate-radio energy. Nine Rave Archive UK recordings are held here, including the first regular Goldie broadcast, the 1995 guest sessions, an undated unbroadcast DJ Ron & MC Strings archive copy, and the year-end collection.
Jungle takes a Friday-night national slot
One in the Jungle grew from a history-led pilot into a regular Radio 1 series. The independent programme archive describes the studio shows as pre-recorded and played out in the style of pirate-radio broadcasts, with featured artists choosing the MC who would front their mix.
The regular run began with Goldie and MC GQ on 20 July 1995, followed by DJ Rap, Roni Size, Kenny Ken, Shy FX & DJ Ash, A Guy Called Gerald and Brockie. The Rave Archive holdings preserve those sessions alongside the year-end “Best of” collection.
The Shy FX & DJ Ash recording is displayed here as 17 August 1995. Its surviving Mixcloud address contains `03.08.1995`, while the independent One in the Jungle chronology places that programme on 17 August.
The DJ Ron & MC Strings unbroadcast recording is retained as a related archive holding without being described as part of the regular 1995 transmission schedule; the independent programme archive lists it separately as an undated unbroadcast pilot.
