Thunder & Joy The Summer Breeze
Brockie & Darren Jay and Kenny Ken & DJ Magic bring the music; a Kool FM advert recorded the day before pins down the date and address.
Raw Club, 112a Great Russell Street, London • Sunday 29 May 1994. Two sets bring Brockie & Darren Jay together with Kenny Ken & DJ Magic. A Kool FM tape from the day before carries the advert for the night.
The archive story
Thunder & Joy under Tottenham Court Road
Raw Club sat beneath the YMCA, four floors down, just off Tottenham Court Road. The Independent’s club guide gives the address as 112a Great Russell Street — right in central London, not the East End.
The two sets pair Brockie with Darren Jay, and Kenny Ken with DJ Magic.
A Kool FM advert recorded on Saturday 28 May names the Summer Breeze at 112a Great Russell Street for the following night, Sunday 29 May. That contemporary mention settles the date despite later tape labels that disagree.

Summer Breeze now has a contemporary date
A surviving Kool FM tape recorded on Saturday 28 May 1994 contains the actual Thunder & Joy advert for Summer Breeze — Sunday 29 May 1994 — 112a Great Russell Street, London. It sits in a remarkable run of adverts for Roast, Desire, Jungle Fever, Jungle Splash, Voodoo Magic, Bushdoctor and other events competing for the same Bank Holiday jungle crowd.
That pirate-radio evidence is closer to the event than later tape-pack labelling and is now the strongest surviving date source for Summer Breeze. The two Rave Archive recordings — Brockie & Darren Jay and Kenny Ken & DJ Magic — preserve the sound; the Kool FM tape gives us the date ravers were being told before they went out.
