One Nation The Valentines Ball
Roller Express, Edmonton • Saturday 12 February 1994. Two months after Under A Groove, One Nation was back at Roller Express with a Valentine-themed hardcore and emerging jungle bill. The original flyer is credited to Junior Tomlin, and four Rave Archive UK recordings survive from the event.
One Nation settles into Roller Express
One Nation’s first documented Roller Express rave, Under A Groove, had taken place in December 1993. The Valentines Ball followed on 12 February 1994, showing how quickly the promoter was establishing a regular identity at the Edmonton venue.
A contemporary advert lists Fabio, Micky Finn, Slipmatt, DJ Vibes, DJ Hype, LTJ Bukem, DJ Killer and DJ Riddler. The surviving Rave Archive UK tapes preserve Hype, Killer with DJ Rap, Fabio and Micky Finn, with MC Free & Easy heard across the recordings.
Musically, the tapes land at the point where late hardcore was hardening into jungle: chopped breakbeats, deeper bass pressure and darker production were becoming central while the rave infrastructure — flyers, MCs, tape packs and big London venues — remained rooted in hardcore culture.
