A central figure in London club culture whose career runs from pirate radio and Trade at Turnmills through The Gallery, global superclubs, chart productions and the harder edge of 1990s house and trance.
From Turnmills to the global club circuit
Paul Newman began DJing as a teenager at his family’s London venue Turnmills, while also gaining experience on pirate radio through Touchdown FM and Sunrise FM. When Trade launched at Turnmills in 1990, he became one of its early residents and developed a reputation for hard-edged but uplifting closing sets.
From Trade he moved into residencies and regular appearances at the Zap Club, Club For Life and later The Gallery at Turnmills, while the expanding 1990s superclub network took him to Cream, Gatecrasher, Godskitchen and clubs around the world. His DJ style sat at the junction of house, hard house, progressive music and trance.
His production career was equally significant. Love Rush became an early Trade anthem, Rock Da House reached the UK charts, and under the Camisra alias he produced Let Me Show You, a major 1998 crossover hit. He later founded Duty Free Recordings and continued producing, remixing and releasing music while remaining closely identified with Turnmills and the generation that built London’s all-night club culture.
