Paul van Dyk emerged from Berlin’s post-reunification electronic scene in the early 1990s, developing a sound that placed melody, emotional tension and precise arrangement at the centre of high-energy club music. His debut album 45 RPM arrived in 1994 and included the original version of For An Angel.

The track’s later E-Werk Club Mix became one of trance music’s defining records, while van Dyk’s international DJ career expanded through clubs, festivals and events such as Berlin’s Love Parade. Albums including Out There and Back and Reflections extended his reputation as both a producer and a headline DJ.

In 1999 he founded VANDIT Records, giving his sound a long-term label home and providing a platform for other trance and electronic artists. His career helped establish the template for the modern international electronic-music artist: studio albums, original productions, global touring, radio, label ownership and large-scale live audiences operating as one connected body of work.
