Biography

Roots and future in the same room

Mantra’s place in jungle and drum & bass is built around selection, curation and community. Together with Double O, she launched Rupture in London in 2006 after finding that the deeper and more adventurous ends of jungle and drum & bass were not always getting the space they deserved.

Rupture developed into a club night, label and radio platform known for putting foundational artists alongside newer producers without treating history as a museum piece. Oldskool jungle, drumfunk, breakbeat experimentation, dubwise pressure and modern 170 music could all coexist because the underlying principle was musical depth rather than fashion.

Mantra’s own DJing reflects that approach. Her sets move fluently between hardcore, jungle and drum & bass while preserving the sense that these are connected parts of one continuum. Beyond the booth she has also worked through EQ50, supporting mentorship and fairer representation within a scene whose opportunities have not always been distributed evenly.

Unlike some of the older rave figures on Rave Archive UK, Mantra does not yet have a substantial trail of indexed event posts in the WordPress archive. Rather than manufacture one, this profile uses recordings from Mantra and Rupture’s own published Mixcloud history — a living archive that shows the same commitment to roots, progression and community.
