Biography

Radio as a route through the music

DJ Flight’s history is inseparable from radio. Inspired by the selectors around the mid-1990s jungle scene, she began broadcasting on London pirate station Flex FM, developing the patient, deeper selection style that would become central to her reputation.

By the end of the decade she had been invited into the Metalheadz orbit and became a resident at label nights, followed by a residency at Fabio’s Swerve. Those spaces placed Flight inside a part of drum & bass culture where the long mix, subtle transitions and musical storytelling mattered as much as peak-time impact.

In 2002, Flight joined the launch of BBC Radio 1Xtra and became the first woman to host a national drum & bass radio show. The Next Chapter became a trusted platform for deeper and forward-looking music, and the show later continued in podcast and independent radio form.

Her role expanded beyond broadcasting. Flight became a mentor, label operator and in 2018 co-founded EQ50, working for fairer representation in drum & bass. The through-line remains selection: connecting music, artists and listeners without flattening the scene into one sound or one era.
