Two recordings, two matching downloads
The surviving files identify the two recordings clearly: SS.mp3 accompanies DJ SS, while Ratty.mp3 accompanies DJ Ratty.
Deep dive • February ’93 on tape
Vision catches the sound turning darker
The two surviving recordings are enough to hear how quickly the breakbeat scene was changing. DJ SS moves through material from Red Alert & Mike Slammer, DJ Hype, Tango, 4 Hero and Metalheads, while Ratty’s reconstructed set brings in Anthill Mob, Dica & Vinyl Groove, Tom & Jerry, Tango and Jack N Phil.
Rather than labelling the whole night with one neat later genre term, the tapes show the actual overlap: hardcore structures, darker breakbeats, early jungle pressure and dubplate culture all operating together in February 1993.
