One Nation Midsummer Ball

Jungle and hardcore Seven tapes from the night

Randall, Micky Finn, Dr S Gachet, Ratty, LTJ Bukem, Slipmatt and Swann-E feature across the tapes from One Nation’s Midsummer Ball.

The event

Midsummer Ball at a glance

One Nation’s original double-sided flyer and the tapes give us a good look at how this early Midsummer Ball was put together.

The archive story

Seven tapes back under one night

Later pack names help explain how individual recordings circulated, but they are not treated as a reconstructed event timetable.

The surviving RAUK tape trail spans Randall, Micky Finn, Dr S Gachet, Ratty, LTJ Bukem, Slipmatt and Swann-E. Ratty’s copy retains Free, Easy and Ruff; Bukem’s retains MC Conrad and the later Kings of the Jungle Volume 3 wording.

Those later tape-pack labels are part of the recording’s afterlife, not proof of the exact live running order. Keeping that distinction visible prevents the archive from turning later packaging into false event chronology.

MixesDB independently preserves the Bukem & Conrad set as One Nation at The Astoria on 16 July 1994, adding another layer of evidence around the same night.

Deep dive • flyer evidence

One Nation had two rooms moving differently

The original flyer shows a broader night than the surviving jungle tapes alone would suggest.

Arena 1 advertised Micky Finn, Slipmatt, Randall, Ellis Dee, LTJ Bukem, Ratty, Dougal, Hype, Dr S Gachet and Marvellous Cain, with GQ, Majika, Conrad and Free & Easy.

Arena 2 was explicitly billed as House/Garage, with Darren Norman, Jo Flannagan, Alan Littlewood, Rob Andrews and Matty Dread. The same flyer advertised 50K Turbo Sound, lighting, dancers, video screens, a licensed bar and a 10pm–8am run.

Those are promises printed before the night, not proof that every advertised element happened exactly as billed. What can be demonstrated afterwards is the unusually rich tape trail from the same 16 July event.
