Storm’s path into drum & bass began as a raver. Together with her close friend Kemistry, she was drawn to the emerging breakbeat sound being pushed by Fabio and Grooverider at Rage at Heaven. The pair bought their first decks together in October 1991 and began the difficult process of turning obsession into a working DJ partnership.

They soon crossed paths with Goldie. A period on London pirate radio — including Touchdown FM — fed into the network that would become Metalheadz. When Goldie established the label in 1994, Kemistry & Storm were central to its early identity: recruiting artists, working on press and promotion, representing the label and becoming residents at the legendary Metalheadz sessions at the Blue Note.

By the later 1990s the duo were internationally established selectors. Their DJ-Kicks mix for !K7 documented the partnership at a high point. In April 1999 Kemistry was killed in a motorway accident while travelling home from a gig with Storm. The loss ended one of drum & bass’s most important DJ partnerships, but Storm eventually returned to the decks and carried their shared musical commitment into a solo career.

Since then she has remained closely identified with Metalheadz while touring worldwide, mentoring younger artists and becoming an especially important reference point for women entering a scene that had long been overwhelmingly male. Her history is not an appendix to drum & bass — it runs through the centre of it.
