About Karisma<\/h2>

Originally from London and now based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Karisma is a highly experienced turntablist, DJ and tutor whose career behind the decks stretches back to 1985.<\/p>

Over the years he has played across the UK, including legendary venues such as Dukes<\/strong> and Ministry of Sound<\/strong>. His experience goes well beyond performing: Karisma previously ran his own DJ school, sharing decades of knowledge and helping other DJs develop their skills before the pandemic brought the school to an end.<\/p>

That combination of experience, technical ability and willingness to pass knowledge on has made Karisma a highly respected part of our team.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

Sound & Style<\/h2>

Karisma\u2019s roots as a turntablist are strongly connected to hip-hop<\/strong> and the culture of DJing as a technical craft. His background includes scratching, turntablism and competitive DJing, including being a contender in the DMC DJ competitions. Over the years his musical journey expanded through house, progressive and melodic sounds, techno and beyond, while those early hip-hop and turntablist foundations have remained an important part of his identity behind the decks.<\/p>

The sounds and techniques of the 1990s remain an important part of what he does. Karisma recreates classic mixes associated with the Ministry of Sound and Fantazia era<\/strong>, bringing the atmosphere and sound of the 90s back to the decks for a new audience while staying true to the spirit of the originals.<\/p><\/div>\n

Hip-hop and turntablism form an important part of Karisma\u2019s roots as a DJ. His early development was shaped by the technical side of the craft \u2014 scratching, cutting and working the turntables as an instrument \u2014 and he went on to become a contender in DMC DJ competition.<\/p>

That competitive turntablist background sits behind the versatility heard in his work today. The connection is also reflected in Karisma\u2019s history within DJ culture, including time alongside DMC World Champion DJ Cash Money, one of the influential figures of the turntablist era.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

Live Streams & Rave Archive<\/h2>

Karisma became part of the wider story during the MixMaster competition years, serving as a MixMaster judge in 2023<\/strong>. That connection later developed into an ongoing DJ partnership with Toddy Tempo through live sessions, collaborations and regular back-to-back mixes.<\/p>

Today, Karisma is a central part of our live-streaming team, performing his own sessions as well as regular B2B and collaborative sets with Toddy Tempo.<\/p>

His mixes and live sessions connect across Rave Archive Live<\/strong> and Rave Archive UK<\/strong>, combining his own long-established identity as a turntablist with the wider streaming side of the Rave Archive community.<\/p>

Some of those sessions bring Karisma and Toddy Tempo together behind the decks, while others give Karisma space to dig into his own musical history and recreate the sounds that helped shape UK club culture.<\/p><\/div>\n

Releases & Credits<\/h2>

Karisma\u2019s work also reaches beyond live DJ sets. He is credited as Turntablist Karisma<\/strong> on Configa\u2019s Encore Intro<\/em>, adding another chapter to a career that has covered clubs, teaching, turntablism and live-streamed sessions.<\/p><\/div>\n\n
