About Karisma

Originally from London and now based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Karisma is a highly experienced turntablist, DJ and tutor whose career behind the decks stretches back to 1985.

Over the years he has played across the UK, including legendary venues such as Dukes and Ministry of Sound. His experience goes well beyond performing: Karisma previously ran his own DJ school, sharing decades of knowledge and helping other DJs develop their skills before the pandemic brought the school to an end.

That combination of experience, technical ability and willingness to pass knowledge on has made Karisma a highly respected part of our team.

Hip-hop and turntablism form an important part of Karisma’s roots as a DJ. His early development was shaped by the technical side of the craft — scratching, cutting and working the turntables as an instrument — and he went on to become a contender in DMC DJ competition.

That competitive turntablist background sits behind the versatility heard in his work today. The connection is also reflected in Karisma’s history within DJ culture, including time alongside DMC World Champion DJ Cash Money, one of the influential figures of the turntablist era.
